Kenya~ The Northern Tribes of Kenya back to Kenya overview page MAP Lost Frontiers provides a most unusual journey to areas of Kenya that most travelers rarely visit. It is a mirco-world of highland savannahs filled with wildlife, semi-arid deserts that are the home of pastoral warrior tribes, the mountains of the north that still harbor isolated ecosystems of ancient cedar forests and island Swahili cultures and pristine beaches of the Indian Ocean. We travel from the Maasai Mara with its incredible migration of massed wildebeests and zebras to northern Kenya, the cradle of mankind where some of the earliest hominid remains were unearthed by Richard Leakey. Many of the areas we visit are completely unspoiled, such as Laikipia and the tribal lands of the Samburu, Turkana and Rendille. This land is so vast that it still supports an enormous variety of wildlife including indigenous species such as Grevis Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk and Somali Ostrich. We travel through the Northern Frontier mountains and deserts both in 4x4 vehicles and on foot with camel support. Game trails are our paths and shaded clearings are our camps where we listen to the wild sounds of the night by the campfire. We conclude our journey on the Indian Oceon coast relaxing in the warm Swahili culture on the exotic the island of Lamu before returning to Nairobi. This is a Kenya far from the madding crowd.
